The end of an era...
This is the post that has been holding me up for three weeks. First I had to go back seven years to find the picture of Josh. Next I had to go back two years to find the picture of Gracie. Finally, I had to overcome inertia. So here it is, the end of an era:
.
Please allow me to kick this off with a complaint: Whatever happened to clothes for kids? Because I’m such a thrift shop/rummage sale junkie and because we’re very fortunate to receive a lot of hand-me-downs I rarely head to the retail stores to buy new clothes for the kids. But when I do I’m often dismayed at the grown-up styles, especially for girls. I’ve seen halter tops for toddlers, underpants for a three year old that more closely resemble thongs than anything in my underwear drawer and impossibly low-cut hip hugger pants.
.
And what’s with all the writing and logos? Why does everything have to have a brand plastered all over it?
.
Whatever happened to a nice plan sweater that could be worn by a boy or a girl?
.
Whatever happened to a sweet off white fleece top with light blue stitching and a little leather snowflake patch? The answer to the last question is that we have it. We’ve had it for eight years. I bought it from a woman whose three boys had worn it. All my kids have worn it and it’s still going strong.
.
There’s a slight possibility that Danny will wear this again next year, but chances are it will be retiring with the spring thaw. It’s held up so well, maybe I’ll see it again on one of my grandchildren.
.
In the meantime, here’s a trip down memory lane with one of my favorites. You’ll notice that one of my kids’ favorite things is the built in teether!
Josh: December 2001
Gracie: February 2007
Danny: January 2009
