This is the post that has been holding me up for three weeks. First I had to go back seven years to find the picture of Josh. Next I had to go back two years to find the picture of Gracie. Finally, I had to overcome inertia. So here it is, the end of an era:
.
Please allow me to kick this off with a complaint: Whatever happened to clothes for kids? Because I’m such a thrift shop/rummage sale junkie and because we’re very fortunate to receive a lot of hand-me-downs I rarely head to the retail stores to buy new clothes for the kids. But when I do I’m often dismayed at the grown-up styles, especially for girls. I’ve seen halter tops for toddlers, underpants for a three year old that more closely resemble thongs than anything in my underwear drawer and impossibly low-cut hip hugger pants.
.
And what’s with all the writing and logos? Why does everything have to have a brand plastered all over it?
.
Whatever happened to a nice plan sweater that could be worn by a boy or a girl?
.
Whatever happened to a sweet off white fleece top with light blue stitching and a little leather snowflake patch? The answer to the last question is that we have it. We’ve had it for eight years. I bought it from a woman whose three boys had worn it. All my kids have worn it and it’s still going strong.
.
There’s a slight possibility that Danny will wear this again next year, but chances are it will be retiring with the spring thaw. It’s held up so well, maybe I’ll see it again on one of my grandchildren.
.
In the meantime, here’s a trip down memory lane with one of my favorites. You’ll notice that one of my kids’ favorite things is the built in teether!
Josh: December 2001
Gracie: February 2007
Danny: January 2009

I totally agree about the clothing! It's hard to keep a little girl innocent with the fashion trends going on...Ugh! It's nice to see you're back. I've missed you for the past three weeks!!!
That is cute seeing your 3 kids in the same shirt. Clothes for kids are sure frustrating, especially trying to stay conservative. I am sick of 9 year old boy clothes with skulls, crossbones or disrespectful writing...ugghh! Girls tops are often too revealing. I think clothing manufactures are trying to age our poor kids too quick. I am a clearance hunter, but I sure have to be selective!!
It was worth the wait! I truly enjoyed seeing the pictures of Josh, Gracie and Danny. I love the smile on Josh's face! That sweater is a treasure. Why don't they make simple but cute, modest clothes for children to wear??? I agree that it is especially bad with girls. And this fall I had a hard time finding shirts without skulls and crossbones, as Sara mentioned in her note....what kind of message does that send?!
As always, it was good to hear from you and I hope all is well at your house.
Love it, especially the built in teether. I totally understand your dismay with children's clothes. They want them to dress like not very modest teenagers.
Oh what a great sweater with an even greater story! I totally agree with you regarding the clothing being sold these days - my 'baby #1' turns 7 in 3 weeks and it is impossible to even find her a simple pair of jeans that aren't sexy ... UGH!
I love shopping consingment - even more so now that we have Baby#2 and I got rid of most of Baby#1's things since we were not planning on having more babies - fast forward 7 years almost and we've got our two girls ... in hand me downs - which I love!
Hope your week is going well ... how the bathroom remodeling going?
Rebekah and the girls!
These are great!!!
